Lazy Day

(a Heroic sonnet)

This morning's sun enlightens like a torch,
the comfort of a warm and quiet porch-
as through the screen, wind softly nudges me,
inviting me outside to come and see
cloud puffs apace within an azure sky
in onward movement, as a passer-by.
From hammock branches of the tree, I hear
the harp and lute of finch notes, very clear;
a call to pause...to 'sit a spell' and rest-
to that...the dogwood blossom here attest-
to that...forsythia becomes astir,
and nodding saffron blossoms all concur.
My thoughts meander, wafting as the breeze-
my pen moves through the near and distant lees...
