Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving

Out in the yard, a squirrel goes scampering

to gather manna for the Winter coming,

as time allows a quick, concordant drumming-

the last of Autumn's leaves awhirl and blowing...

and songbirds fortify their nests in knowing

the colder season brings a cozy humming;

yet thankful tweets ring midst the branches strumming

before first snowfall, starkly white and glowing.

Inside my house, the Lord makes me aware

of blessings held and manna yet to share

upon Thanksgiving, which is every day;

I'm thankful to Him that He guides the way

enlightening the soul He knows of me

with love from Him and love of family.

(a Petrarchan sonnet)
