The Autumn I Know

The Autumn I Know

This is the Autumn that I know
oh so native to my soul...
winding roads 'neath canopies
of crimson, rust and ochre trees,
ribboned in sunlight- glowing in shade-
leaves wayfaring midst a breeze.

Fields calling - harvest time-
wind rustled husks in song to rhyme;
flights of geese towards eve's flambeau-
the chill of crisp October air,
an echo of a cawing crow...
bright leaves cascading - this I know...

the stirring of the fallowed corn
gold gilded in a dawning sun
enlightening the vibrant hills-
a burnished view 'till day is done,
kindling October's fire aglow-
this is the Autumn I love and know...

(Looking forward to my favorite time of year!)
