      Daniel and the Lion's Den

I knew if I was caught, I'd have to go,
And so did they who wrote the law I'd break,
But still I chose to pray, well did they know,
The law would sentence me for their own sake.
It was a deadly recipe they mixed,
I was the chosen prime ingredient,
And ordered to be served as they had fixed,
To be the lion's meal, the main event.
The king was used, could not reverse his role,
His pride succumbed to those who wrote the law,
For all petitions, he would have control,
Their scheme had just one unintended flaw-
     Petitions brought before the true God's seat
     Can cause a hungry lion to not eat.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
