On Seeing Deer in a Mist at Dusk

Their hoofs run quickly field to wood,
Their eyes search carefully for foe,
Their senses seek what senses should
To save the fawn, the buck, and doe.

Their silhouettes against the sky
Of graceful heads above ground mist,
Now seem to have no wary eye,
A scene of God and nature’s tryst.

The earth will keep what’s made of earth,
But, spirits visit, then return,
To Him who formed this land from birth
And gave us life from which to learn.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
