At Pie and Tea

          At Pie and Tea

I saw You clearly just this very day
Although at first my blind eyes didn't see
Beyond embattlements in the foray
Of paperwork lined up to charge at me.

"Papot," she said,"I haf sum fin fir yu,"
"Not now, Senia, I'm needed at my post,"
With pen drawn out prepared to run it through,
My paper enemy would soon be toast.

"Papot, ka meer, I haf sum fin fir yu,"
"OK, Senia." This war will have to wait,
My mind forsaw a spill and crisis too
At which I might arrive a bit too late.

"But firs yu haf ta kuffir up yur eyes."
"Now look, Papot," she said and smiled so wide,
Her dolly's table set with tea and pies,
My heart smiled tenderly from deep inside.

Strawberry Shortcake and Bugs Bunny sat
All dressed in finery for mid-morn tea,
Seni and I had quite a friendly chat,
I soon forgot the paper enemy.

The empty cups held tea I couldn't see,
And pie? Invisible...what could I say?
My heart saw You sit down for pie and tea
So clearly through my granddaughter today.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
