Morning's Oriole
Viewed Last 24 Hours: 1 time

By Rich Tassinari
Other Poems by Rich Tassinari

       Morning’s Oriole

Beneath its black and feathered wing,
Its yellow breast begins to rise
Like morning light in eastern skies
Arises from a slumbering.

A hood and cape as dark as coal
And streaked with lines as grey as ash,
But underneath, a flaming sash,
The flight of morning’s oriole.

Just as the sun spreads forth its light
From nothing where the darkness slept,
Where only dreams and wants are kept,
Life rises up and all is bright.

The ever rising lifting up
Of flame from ashes, light from dark,
The burning breast, the Savior’s spark,
I drink each morning’s living cup!

Rich Tassinari 5/30/15

After seeing my first oriole in the backyard the other morning, it occurred to me how God has created for us on earth many symbols to remind us to keep faith, have hope, and gain salvation. Not only are God's creations on earth beautiful, but also an inspiration. And we, of all creatures, are made in His image.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
