I Who Speak to You Am He

I Who Speak to You Am He

I left my water jug behind
Without a second thought,
No better water will I find
Than that which He has brought.

I ran as fast as I could run
To let the thirsty know
That I have drawn my drink from One
Who has an endless flow.

A flow of water to my heart
Where desert sand had blown,
His living water takes apart
My heart of sand and stone.

And fills the heart, now waters flow
Like rushing streams in spring
To bring the heaven's life below
For all His following.

His water purges, pulls, and pries
My dried-up heart's debris,
His words will cleanse like rain from skies,
"I who speak am he."

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
