True and Straight

          True and Straight

If I should lean to left or right,
And shift some more however slight
To lean and lean, to heed man’s call,
Then I will surely someday fall,
And, if I am a balanced scale,
To equal right and left avail,
Although my beam then doesn’t lean,
I am at best just in between.

But if I choose another source,
Weigh wisdom and keep pure the course,
My scale will show the truer weight
My path in life will follow straight,
Then I shall neither fall nor fail
To find which principles prevail
And neither lean nor patronize,
But see through God’s eternal eyes.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
