           A Poem Will

A poem first will shine and then will peel
Away its outer glossy skin,
And thus reveal to hearts that see and feel
Its beauty out and beauty in.

A poem is an apple fresh and red,
A bunch of purple grapes that shine,
Like God’s first fruits fermented when they’ve shed
Their outer skins, they’ll be like wine.

A poem can be bitter, also sweet,
Inside a mouth, the taste is brief,
But nourishment from poems that you eat
With heart and soul become belief.

Inside each poem, you will find a seed,
The same grew God’s poetic fruit
Upon which hungry hearts and souls will feed,
The seed will grow another shoot.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
