A Fairer Day
Viewed Last 24 Hours: 1 time

              A Fairer Day

On sunny days, through needy eyes,
I’ve seen dark clouds in cloudless skies,
And hid in shadows out from light
For want of something in my sight.

On stormy days, self-soaked and vain,
I’ve cried as many tears as rain
From unmet wants that I had sought,
And seeking self, just wanting got.

And yet, while I bemoaned my state,
All nature sang and grew elate
In valleys, meadows, mountains too-
A natural ebullient hue.

The rain, like hope, fell where it will,
And light, like love, then gave its fill
To all that’s rooted in the earth
Where rain and light give life and birth.

These blessings both of hope and love
Descend to me from up above
To cultivate the native hue
Of Him within my heart made new.

What makes a day a fairer day
Than any other? I should say,
It’s not my weather, rain or shine,
But, whether I am His or mine.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
