                 Autumn

Bright leaves in yellow, orange, red,
God’s autumn quilt upon earth’s bed
And spread across the hills and plains
Anointed by October rains,
Wet-dappled colors giving praise
To Him who sanctifies these days.

Now cool the easy touch of air,
Moist morning dew, and breezes fair
From dawn to dusk a time to reap,
From dusk to dawn a kinder sleep,
When soon the autumn’s harvest’s done,
His restful season is begun.

A rest, the growing journey ends
And time to harvest what He sends,
Like pumpkins plump upon the vine
And souls that grew through summertime
To ripen fresh this time of year-
His peaceful harvest follows near.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
