Take a Pew
Viewed Last 24 Hours: 1 time

Take a Pew

There’s no one called to fill a pew

But some still sit with nought to do

When work’s at hand, they shrink and swerve

Though Jesus came on earth to serve

The lost outside die everywhere

Ignorant endless life’s to share

Though Heaven calls their souls to win

Still they perish festooned in sin

The Lord said, “Wash each other’s feet

Observe the chaff fall from the wheat”

The proud may say, “Of what you ask

Is not for me this menial task”

But what is great and what is not?

What is an “i” without a dot?

What in the church is valued most?

The pew, pulpit or Holy Ghost

Some think no one can understand

Lest they come diploma in hand

Could this be where the failure lies?

Will not the least confound the wise?

Like Mathew, Mark, Peter and John

On such Heaven’s relied upon

Not one possessed papers from school

Yet each God called to be His tool

No other place had Christ to search

Through unschooled men He’s built His church

God’s word was kept in every way

What more can schools do now today?

So all are called to do their bit

Much more than in a pew to sit

Best think if when Christ speaks to you

Many are called - God chooses few.....

About the Poet
I never wrote a word of poetry in my life. Till the day Jesus took my hand and touched my soul.....I invite your response. However most poems are not about me! Very few are. But the feed-back good, bad or indifferent is always desired. Not meant to offend, but I write about many things in many a guise. Of life, death, lost, found, saved, backsliders, new comers, repenting souls, doubting hearts, heathens, Christians, fire, water, Satan's daughter, wallowing in sin, saved, made sound walking in Light, graceful righteous. Suffering, ecstatic, bored, excited, sad, delighted, Sick, well, lame, able, living, dying, etc. etc. etc. Writing about anything, everything and everyone as the spirit leads. All meant to reveal, waken, revive, encourage, shame, help. Gladden, pick up, exalt, portrait, liberate. Again over 99% of my work is not about me. Although at times I write as though I were or am. Speaking e.g. in the first person. This is quite common even in the bible itself. Prophets speak of themselves, then God speaks, again the prophet, then God......Quite often it's difficult to distinguish whom it is that at any given time is speaking or narrating.
