What Kind of Poem

What Kind of Poem?

I can write a poem
Even make it rhyme
But musical speech
Evades this old mind.

Will what I write have meaning -
Something to make people think?
Will there be time remaining
For them to stand on the brink?

The old writing may sound like preaching,
More natural to me as I go.
For most of this life I was reaching
Trying to reach those needing God so.

Now, in our old age, should we try to change so,
Write frivolous poems just to make people smile
So that none of God’s wisdom from pen should flow?
We can do both and honor God all the while.

About the Poet
I asked Jesus to be my Savior when I was 11 - that was almost 70 years ago as of June 2015. My husband and I had been married for 54 years as of March 2010 before he went Home to Heaven, and we have one son & daughter in law and 3 grandchildren.
