Reshaping the Plea

Reshaping the Plea

*** years of worship ***

Her rival pokes injury.
“Woman, what is wrong,
arms still bare?”

The man cares for her deeply.
“Is not my love more
than ten sons?”

She dreads the trips to Shiloh.
“When will God hear my
constant prayer?”

With zeal she reshapes her plea.
Can God hear inmost
oblations?

The priest faults her great distress.
“Must you come here drunk
with your care?”

*** some time later ***

The boy has but one question.
“Who will care for me
when you leave?”

The mother restrains her tears.
How can she show trust
to her son?

She’s made peace now at Shiloh.
Does the Lord expect
she won’t grieve?

“This is God’s will, Samuel.
Were you not chosen,
little one?”

Hannah’s praise song is vic’try.
Dare we to pray it
and believe?

*** the rest of her life ***

Her baby is relinquished.

Did a vow cause her

faith to grow?

This child was destined to win.

Would he have triumphed

at her knee?

In time, three sons greet two girls

Can you see them all

at Shiloh?

Hannah restructured her pray’rs.

What does Jehovah

want from me?

This change made all the diff’rence.

What is God holding

in escrow?

About the Poet
Growing older with some pains and discomfort, graying hair, glasses, partial plate and hearing aids but with complete assurance of my eternal domain. Saved by choice by Gods free grace by Jesus life, death and resurrection. Born and bred in the Bluegrass State for 24 years, I crossed the Ohio River and became a Hoosier forever thereafter until that time God calls me to my heavenly home. Christian for fifty-five plus years. Church musician and SS teacher for most all of my Wednesdays and Sundays. Public school teacher for thirty-six school terms; retired with a class now of three grandchildren off and on during the week. Wife for half my life to the same superman. Mama to two unique sons. Mother-in-law to a fine daughter; Nana to one darling girl and two handsome guys. God has blessed me abundantly; thank you, Father. God quiets my hackles; God quickens my heart; God quells my hunger. Blessed be His holy name.
