Man's Apreciation of Man #2

What if for one day, we’d all exchange jobs,
one day a month, might teach us respect?
What of a career
as an engineer?
or of a clerk whose books are suspect?

For one day, try serving as a fireman
or change spots with somebody’s chauffeur.
Work the fac’try lines,
labor in the mines,
swap posts with a president’s go-fer.

What if our world valued the assortment
of folks blessed with skills so diverse
Though there’s no guarantee
we might come to see
our livelihood could always be worse.

See yourself as a struggling artist.
Call up the duties of a bar maid.
Be a kids’ teacher
maybe a preacher.
Pause to wonder how their bills get paid.

Consider the job of mother/housewife
caring for hubby and toddler quints.
Trade jobs with a cook
who’s writing a book.
Some vocations need a seventh sense.

What if we just inspect occupations
with intent to find something worth praise?
Our motivation --
ap-pre-ci-a-tion
for the world of work that fills our days.

About the Poet
Growing older with some pains and discomfort, graying hair, glasses, partial plate and hearing aids but with complete assurance of my eternal domain. Saved by choice by Gods free grace by Jesus life, death and resurrection. Born and bred in the Bluegrass State for 24 years, I crossed the Ohio River and became a Hoosier forever thereafter until that time God calls me to my heavenly home. Christian for fifty-five plus years. Church musician and SS teacher for most all of my Wednesdays and Sundays. Public school teacher for thirty-six school terms; retired with a class now of three grandchildren off and on during the week. Wife for half my life to the same superman. Mama to two unique sons. Mother-in-law to a fine daughter; Nana to one darling girl and two handsome guys. God has blessed me abundantly; thank you, Father. God quiets my hackles; God quickens my heart; God quells my hunger. Blessed be His holy name.
