Wise but Worthless

Wise but Worthless

The hairs on our head are numbered,
as are the sparrows that fall...
the autumn leaves that fly
God knows them one and all.

Who but a Supreme Creator
can tally each grain of sand
and name every star above,
which of us can understand?

Yet men think they're invincible
filled with wisdom of their own,
unwilling to acknowledge God
or bow before His throne!

God calls these men foolish
tho they think themselves wise;
their greatest plans God says
are worthless in His eyes.

How hardened men become
when they refuse to admit
they must answer to the
Lord and eventually submit.

Yet God in His great mercy
gives them every opportunity
to repent and be saved
at the cross of Calvary.

They are in bondage to satan
but on their own can't resist,
and what's worse than that,
many don't believe He exists!

O the folly of mortal men,
Tho God offers them a pardon,
they stubbornly reject Him
and wallow in their sin.

Lord, open blind eyes I pray
just as you did for me,
extend Your hand of grace
and set the captives free!

1Corinthians 3:18-20 "Stop fooling yourselves.  If you think you are wise by this world's standards, you will have to become a fool so you can become wise by God's standards.  For the wisdom of the world is foolishness to God.  As the Scriptures say, "God catches those who think they are wise in their own cleverness.  The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise and they are worthless."

About the Poet
Christian since 1973, widowed in 2007, but by the divine appt. of God, I married a wonderful, godly widower in Oct. 2010. Three grown, married sons and eight grandchildren. My first love is Jesus who inspires my pen, for apart from Him I can do nothing! I desire to honor the Lord and edify readers thru poetry He inspires.
