Good Things
Saturday, August 9, 2014GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS HOLY WORD:
1 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? - Romans 6:1-2(New International Version).
GOD'S PROMISE TO US FROM HIS HOLY WORD:
(The Apostle Paul wrote) 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. - Romans 8:38-39(New International Version).
A QUOTE:
God calls believers to show their love and gratefulness for Him in their good works of hospitality and compassion. - Anne Cetas -
THOUGHTS TO REMEMBER:
Blessed are those who give without remembering and take without forgetting. - From Reminisce Magazine -
God's Word is the true source of comfort. - From Our Daily Bread -
Wear a smile and have friends, wear a scowl and have wrinkles. - From Reminisce Magazine -
NOTES:
Today has been a cloudy day with a high temperature of 90 degrees. I had lunch with Charley. I went to the post office. I took a nap without a cat today although Itty Bitty did come to the bed and give me a little loving before I went to sleep. I had a call from my daughter, June, in Hawaii around 2:00 p.m. They were in Hilo to buy a chain saw to cut up the fallen trees in their yard. None of their neighbors have electricity yet. They were going to buy a generator to produce power but the stores had all sold out. She still can't call on her cell phone from home but called while they were in Hilo, which is about 25 miles from their house.
The Lawrence Welk program was not on OETA tonight since they are having Augustfest, raising money for the coming year. They had a program with Daniel O'Donnell, the Irish singer, who is one of my favorites. He is a young man but only elderly people were in attendance at his program since he sings the older classic songs. He closed the program with a beautiful rendition of "How Great Thou Art" which really blessed my heart. I put food out for the cats at around 7:05 p.m. Thanks for writing to me and thanks for reading the Good Things. The Scripture verses are the most important and my notes are the least important.
The cats are fine. Lucy, Tony and Smokey are the ones with me now but Emmy, Leo and Rascal have been around recently. Some of my cats check on me quite often.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday.Everett

Good Things
Friday, August 8, 2014GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS HOLY WORD:
13 Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong. 14 Do everything in love. - 1 Corinthians 16:13-14(New International Version).
GOD'S PROMISE TO US FROM HIS HOLY WORD.:
(David wrote) 25 I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. - Psalm 37:25(New International Version).
A QUOTE:
No matter how scary our journey may feel today, or how hopeless our future may look, the assurance of the Lord's never-failing presence can provide us with the courage and comfort to make it through. - Joe Stowell -
THOUGHTS TO REMEMBER:
One measure of our likeness to Christ is our sensitivity to the suffering of others. - From Our Daily Bread -
"Over the hill" means the hardest climb is over and the view is terrific. - From Reminisce Magazine -
The bend in the road is not the end of the road unless you fail to make the turn. - From Reminisce Magazine -
NOTES:
Today has been partly cloudy with a high temperature of 90 degrees. I had lunch with Charley. I went to the post office. I took a nap with Emmy. At around 6:30 p.m. I put treats outside for the cats. Thanks for your notes and thanks for reading the Good Things. I finally heard from my daughter, June, in Hawaii, about 3:00 p.m. today. They were in bed sleeping when the hurricane hit their house in the wee hours last night. She said it really made a noise like at an airport. They live in the forest and they could hear trees falling all around. One tree fell on their house and tore the electric connection from their house so they won't have electricity even when it comes back on until their electricity is reconnected to their house. She can't even use the cell phone from her house. There must be a tower down somewhere. She used her cell phone to call me but had to go some where else to use it. Trees cluttered their driveway so they had to remove them before they could go anywhere. She said there were trees down everywhere. Her husband had neglected to fill his car with gas before the storm so they finally found a gas station open. I asked her if they were going to stay in Hawaii. She said this happens in Oklahoma with the tornados. You do have a warning from a hurricane. Thanks for your prayers and continue to pray, not only for June and Keith, but for all the people in Hawaii who had damage from the hurricane.
The cats are fine. Smokey is lying on a desk and Lucy is lying in the floor not too far from my feet. Leo, Rascal and Tony were here a little while ago but have now gone elsewhere. I have seen all the cats this evening.
Have a nice Saturday. Everett.

Thursday, August 7, 2014GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS HOLY WORD:
16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. - James 3:16(New International Version).
GOD'S PROMISE TO US FROM HIS HOLY WORD:
12 Yet to all who received Him (Jesus), to those who believed in His Name, He gave the right to become children of God - 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. - John 1:12-13(New International Version).
A QUOTE:
How do you convince a world that God is alive? By His aliveness in your life, by His work in producing reality in your experience. - Howard G. Hendricks -
THOUGHTS TO REMEMBER:
In creation we see God's hand, and in redemption we see His heart. - From Our Daily Bread -
Love is a choice, a commitment, an action, a gift - may the Spirit of God give you wisdom to follow your heart in the way of love today. - From Prayers and Blessings -
You can't push yourself forward by patting yourself on the back. - From Reminisce Magazine -
NOTES:
We had rain early this morning but skies cleared to partly cloudy this afternoon. We had less than a quarter of an inch at my house. High today was 88 degrees. I had lunch with Charley. I went to the post office. I took a nap with Emmy. I put treats out for the cats around 6:00 p.m. Thanks for your emails and thanks for reading the Good Things. Tonight I am concerned about the hurricane that is about to hit the big island of Hawaii. That is where my daughter, June, and husband, Keith, live. They live about 25 miles from Hilo. My television is tuned to the weather channel tonight. I had a note from June this afternoon which I will leave at the end of the Good Things. I talked to her about two hours ago. They are still just watching the rain and waiting. Please say a prayer for them.
The cats are fine. None are with me at present but Rascal just left but will be back soon. I have seen all the cats this evening.
Have a nice Friday. Everett.
Here is June's note:
Hi Dad. It is raining here, that is all so far. The wind will start this afternoon, according to the paper. Should be past us by midnight, then there is another storm coming this weekend. Our water tank should get plenty full. We were going to get a pizza for lunch, but all Pizza Huts on the island are closed. I am glad i wasn't leaving on my trip today, the planes might not be leaving. So we will just stay home, probably better that way. I am sitting on the lanai just enjoying the rain and the calm before the storm. Maybe we won't lose power, and if we do I still have my cell phone. Talk to you later, I hope. Love, June

4 Look to the Lord and His strength; seek His face always. - Psalm 105:4(New International Version).
GOD'S PROMISE TO US FROM HIS HOLY WORD:
8 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law. 9 The commandments, "Do not commit adultery," "Do not murder," "Do not steal," "Do not covet," and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: "Love your neighbor as yourself." - Romans 13:8-9(New International Version).

Confidence in God's presence is our comfort. - From Our Daily Bread -
The trouble with making mental notes is that the ink dries too fast. - From Reminisce Magazine -
To get the full measure of joy, you must have someone to divide it with. - From Reminisce Magazine -
NOTES:
Today has been partly cloudy with a high temperature of 93 degrees. Stephanie from the professional cleaners cleaned my house this morning. She always does a wonderful job of cleaning. I had lunch today with my nephew, Denton, and his daughter, Leslie. Charley had lunch at his church today. I went to the post office. I took a nap this afternoon with Smokey. I put treats out for the cats at around 6:35 p.m. Thanks for reading the Good Things and thanks for your emails.
The cats are fine. Smokey is the only one with me at present. He is having a bite of dry food. When Smokey catches something outside, he brings it in, drops it in the floor and steps back and meows. I heard him meow this afternoon and he had brought in a little frog. The frog appeared to be already dead so I left it alone. I don't know what Smokey finally did with it. I have seen all the cats this evening.
Have a nice Thursday. Everett

Good Things
Tuesday, August 5, 2014GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS HOLY WORD:
21 My son, preserve sound judgment and discernment, do not let them out of your sight; 22 they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck. 23 Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble; 24 when you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. - Proverbs 3:21-24(New International Version).
GOD'S PROMISE TO US FROM HIS HOLY WORD
6 Seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him while He is near. 7 Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him return to the Lord, and He will have mercy on him, and to our God, for He will freely pardon. - Isaiah 55:6-7(New International Version).
A QUOTE:
When we experience unfairness, it is our privilege and responsibility as followers of Christ to respond with honesty and integrity, doing what is right, just and fair. - David McCasland -
THOUGHTS TO REMEMBER:
Confession to God always brings cleansing from God. - From Our Daily Bread -
Hide your fears but share your courage. - From Reminisce Magazine -
Love always finds a home in the heart of a friend. - From Reminisce Magazine -
NOTES:
Today has been a sunny day with a high temperature of 91 degrees. I had lunch with Charley. After lunch I went by the funeral home to view my good friend, Gaetano. He just appeared to be sleeping. He was dressed in his uniform. I don't think that I will attend the funeral tomorrow because they are expecting a big crowd and due to my back problem I just can't maneuver like I did when I was younger. After all, I will be 89 years of age later this month if I live that long and the Lord tarries. I went to the post office and then by Country Mart for some items. I took a nap with Emmy and Smokey. Around 4:00 p.m. I went to the Petsense store for canned cat food. I stopped by Wendy's and brought home a snack for my evening meal. I put treats outside for the cats at around 6:30 p.m. Thanks for your emails and thanks for reading the Good Things.
The cats are fine. Smokey is on a desk near me. Tony just went outside. Rascal was here a little while ago but he has gone elsewhere. He will be back soon. I have seen all the cats this evening.
Have a nice Wednesday. Everett
