Good Things

Thursday, August 7, 2014

GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS HOLY WORD:

16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. - James 3:16(New International Version).

GOD'S PROMISE TO US FROM HIS HOLY WORD:

12 Yet to all who received Him (Jesus), to those who believed in His Name, He gave the right to become children of God - 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. - John 1:12-13(New International Version).

A QUOTE:

How do you convince a world that God is alive? By His aliveness in your life, by His work in producing reality in your experience. - Howard G. Hendricks -

THOUGHTS TO REMEMBER:

In creation we see God's hand, and in redemption we see His heart. - From Our Daily Bread -

Love is a choice, a commitment, an action, a gift - may the Spirit of God give you wisdom to follow your heart in the way of love today. - From Prayers and Blessings -

You can't push yourself forward by patting yourself on the back. - From Reminisce Magazine -

NOTES:

We had rain early this morning but skies cleared to partly cloudy this afternoon. We had less than a quarter of an inch at my house. High today was 88 degrees. I had lunch with Charley. I went to the post office. I took a nap with Emmy. I put treats out for the cats around 6:00 p.m. Thanks for your emails and thanks for reading the Good Things. Tonight I am concerned about the hurricane that is about to hit the big island of Hawaii. That is where my daughter, June, and husband, Keith, live. They live about 25 miles from Hilo. My television is tuned to the weather channel tonight. I had a note from June this afternoon which I will leave at the end of the Good Things. I talked to her about two hours ago. They are still just watching the rain and waiting. Please say a prayer for them.

The cats are fine. None are with me at present but Rascal just left but will be back soon. I have seen all the cats this evening.

Have a nice Friday. Everett.

Here is June's note:

Hi Dad. It is raining here, that is all so far. The wind will start this afternoon, according to the paper. Should be past us by midnight, then there is another storm coming this weekend. Our water tank should get plenty full. We were going to get a pizza for lunch, but all Pizza Huts on the island are closed. I am glad i wasn't leaving on my trip today, the planes might not be leaving. So we will just stay home, probably better that way. I am sitting on the lanai just enjoying the rain and the calm before the storm. Maybe we won't lose power, and if we do I still have my cell phone. Talk to you later, I hope. Love, June
