Good Things

Friday, August 8, 2014

GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS HOLY WORD:

13 Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong. 14 Do everything in love. - 1 Corinthians 16:13-14(New International Version).

GOD'S PROMISE TO US FROM HIS HOLY WORD.:

(David wrote) 25 I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. - Psalm 37:25(New International Version).

A QUOTE:

No matter how scary our journey may feel today, or how hopeless our future may look, the assurance of the Lord's never-failing presence can provide us with the courage and comfort to make it through. - Joe Stowell -

THOUGHTS TO REMEMBER:

One measure of our likeness to Christ is our sensitivity to the suffering of others. - From Our Daily Bread -

"Over the hill" means the hardest climb is over and the view is terrific. - From Reminisce Magazine -

The bend in the road is not the end of the road unless you fail to make the turn. - From Reminisce Magazine -

NOTES:

Today has been partly cloudy with a high temperature of 90 degrees. I had lunch with Charley. I went to the post office. I took a nap with Emmy. At around 6:30 p.m. I put treats outside for the cats. Thanks for your notes and thanks for reading the Good Things. I finally heard from my daughter, June, in Hawaii, about 3:00 p.m. today. They were in bed sleeping when the hurricane hit their house in the wee hours last night. She said it really made a noise like at an airport. They live in the forest and they could hear trees falling all around. One tree fell on their house and tore the electric connection from their house so they won't have electricity even when it comes back on until their electricity is reconnected to their house. She can't even use the cell phone from her house. There must be a tower down somewhere. She used her cell phone to call me but had to go some where else to use it. Trees cluttered their driveway so they had to remove them before they could go anywhere. She said there were trees down everywhere. Her husband had neglected to fill his car with gas before the storm so they finally found a gas station open. I asked her if they were going to stay in Hawaii. She said this happens in Oklahoma with the tornados. You do have a warning from a hurricane. Thanks for your prayers and continue to pray, not only for June and Keith, but for all the people in Hawaii who had damage from the hurricane.

The cats are fine. Smokey is lying on a desk and Lucy is lying in the floor not too far from my feet. Leo, Rascal and Tony were here a little while ago but have now gone elsewhere. I have seen all the cats this evening.

Have a nice Saturday. Everett.
