Good Things
Tuesday, April 22, 2014GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS HOLY WORD:
5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." - Hebrews 13:5(New International Version).
GOD'S PROMISE TO US FROM HIS HOLY WORD:
165 Great peace have they who love your law (O Lord), and nothing can make them stumble. - Psalm 119:165(New International Version).
A QUOTE:
Investing money in retirement funds can be profitable, but investing in our spiritual lives offers the best kind of return for our future! - Anne Cetas -
THOUGHTS TO REMEMBER:
May your failures and mistakes be merely steps of learning on your path to better tomorrows. - From I Wish For You -
Put others before yourself, and you can become a leader among others. - From Reminisce Magazine -
Rich treasurers of God's truth are waiting to be discovered by you. - From Our Daily Bread -
NOTES:
Well, maybe I have this thing just about figured out now so I will go ahead and send a late Good Things. Please let me know how the new format is working for you. I don't know why they keep changing things. Today has been a sunny day with a high temperature of 79 degrees and a low of 51 degrees. I had lunch with Charley, Bill, our nephew, Denton, and his wife, Carol. I went to the post office. I took a nap this afternoon with Emmy. At 5:30 p.m. I made a trip to Walgreen's to pick up a prescription. I came by Braum's and picked up a hamburger, fries and a drink and brought home to eat. I put food and treats outside for the animals at around 6:30 p.m. Tomorrow, Charley will make a trip to Muskogee for removal of a small tumor from his bladder. It will be outpatient surgery. His granddaughter, Jody, will go with him so I won't go since it is really difficult for me with my back problem to sit so long at the hospital. Thanks for your emails and thanks for reading the Good Things. I would appreciate it if you will let me know how the new format works for you.
The cats are fine. Rascal is in the recliner and the others are elsewhere. Several of them have been in the den this evening. I have seen all of them.
Have a nice Wednesday. Everett

James T. Harvey
My Hope, in Christ
This is the day the Lord has made,
Take Comfort, and do not be afraid,
Our Father in Heaven rules from above,
And nothing can take away His Love!
Besides, His Mercies, like ointment poured
Will draw us closer to Christ, our Lord
And being Sovereign over all things,
The Promises flow from He Whom Life Springs!
For He has in mind our Ultimate Good,
Though often we children have misunderstood,
Because He made us from the earth's own dust,
But saved each one whom in Christ, will trust!
So, cheer up, soul, though tested and tried,
Just cast all your cares on Jesus, in stride,
And be assured, He's promised you Good,
And He will complete it, as only He could!

GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS HOLY WORD:
12 The sleep of a laborer is sweet, whether he eats little or much, but the abundance of a rich man permits him no sleep. - Ecclesiastes 5:12(New International Version).
GOD'S PROMISE TO US FROM HIS HOLY WORD:
(The Apostle Paul wrote) 1 "If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose." - Philippians 2:1-2(New International Version).
A QUOTE:
The human heart, at whatever age, opens to the heart that opens in return. - Maria Edgeworth -
THOUGHTS TO REMEMBER:
May you have the fortitude and faith to hang on to what's important when others have let go. - From I Wish For You -
Now is the time to invest in eternity. - From Our Daily Bread -
Worry is putting today's sun behind tomorrow's cloud. - From Reminisce Magazine -
LEST WE FORGET:
Future generations may dismiss the Second World War as "just another war." Those who experienced it know that it was a war justified in its aims and successful in accomplishing them. - A.J.P. Taylor, The Second World War.
NOTES:
Today has been a cloudy day with a rain shower now and then. It also rained during the night last night. So far my rain gauge shows four tenths of an inch of rain last night and today. High temperature today was 73 degrees. I had lunch with Charley and Bill. I went to the post office but there was no mail for me today. I went by Walgreen's and left a prescription to be filled. I will pick up the prescription tomorrow. I took a nap this afternoon with Beau and Emmy. Friendly was sleeping on a high shelf in the same room. I put food and treats out for the cats at around 6:00 p.m. Thanks for your emails and thanks for reading the Good Things.
The cats are fine. Rascal is in the recliner chair. Tony is on a desk near me. Tony likes to purr when he is petted and he also likes to talk a lot. Lucy is also with us tonight. I have seen all the cats this evening.
Have a nice Tuesday. Everett

Daffodil Sermon
(a Swannet)
Awakening with drowsy heads,
they rest and bask in morning sun;
within the new Spring day begun,
they've tossed the covers from their beds.
The yawning breeze sets them astir
as inwardly, they start to praise,
for soon there will be full bloom gaze
from strength of hallowed root, so sure.
Gold-gilded here before the King,
the faithful flowers take a stand
to speak God's Word across the land-
these hailing daffodils of Spring.
Awakening with drowsy heads,
they've tossed the covers from their beds.
(A swannet is a sonnet form, though written in tetrameter. The form requires a few repeating lines. This is the rhyme scheme: a1 b b a2 c d d c e f f e a1 a2 )
Good Things
Sunday, April 20, 2014GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS HOLY WORD:
2 He (the Lord) lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. 3 He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the lord. - Psalm 40:2-3(New International Version).
GOD'S PROMISE TO US FROM HIS HOLY WORD:
(Peter said) 12 "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." - Acts 4:12(New International Version).
A QUOTE:
Grudges are a burden too heavy to carry. - Dave Branon -
THOUGHTS TO REMEMBER:
Kindness is hard to give away because it keeps coming back. - From Reminisce Magazine -
To escape sin's curse, run to the cross. - From Our Daily Bread -
When your soul is weary and troubled, I hope you remember "the Lord is my shepherd" He'll lead you beside quiet waters. - From I Wish For You -
NOTES:
Today has been mostly cloudy with a little rain shower tonight around 7:00 p.m. High temperatures today were in the seventies. I attended Easter Services this morning. We had a wonderful service. We had choruses, hymns and spiritual songs with the theme "He Is Risen." A trio of Janice, Stan and Pastor JT sang a special titled "Gone." Pastor JT's sermon was titled "Transformed through The Cross: It's Time to Rise Up!" I had lunch at home. I took my afternoon nap with Emmy and Smokey. I put treats and food out for the cats at 6:00 p.m. and sat with them for a few minutes. The rain came in later. I put the garbage on the street around 7:30 p.m. for pick up in the morning. Thanks for your emails and comments on the Good Things.
The cats are fine. Rascal is the only one with me at present but the others have been coming and going since the little rain shower. I have seen all the cats this evening.
Have a nice Monday to start the week. Everett
