Daffodil Sermon

(a Swannet)

Awakening with drowsy heads,

they rest and bask in morning sun;

within the new Spring day begun,

they've tossed the covers from their beds.

The yawning breeze sets them astir

as inwardly, they start to praise,

for soon there will be full bloom gaze

from strength of hallowed root, so sure.

Gold-gilded here before the King,

the faithful flowers take a stand

to speak God's Word across the land-

these hailing daffodils of Spring.

Awakening with drowsy heads,

they've tossed the covers from their beds.

(A swannet is a sonnet form, though written in tetrameter. The form requires a few repeating lines. This is the rhyme scheme: a1 b b a2 c d d c e f f e a1 a2 )
