GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS HOLY WORD

14 The Lord is a friend to those who fear him.
      He teaches them his covenant.
- Psalm 25:14(New Living Translation).

GOD'S PROMISE TO US FROM HIS HOLY WORD

30 Even youths will become weak and tired,
and young men will fall in exhaustion.
31 But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint.
- Isaiah 40:30-31(New Living Translation).

A QUOTE

Watch your thoughts; they become words.
- Frank Outlaw -

THOUGHTS TO REMEMBER

A chance meeting with a rarely seen friend opens the floodgates to memories.
- From Reminisce Magazine -

A child is someone who passes through your life and then disappears into an adult.

NOTES

Today has been mostly cloudy with high temperatures in the low seventies.  I had lunch with Charley.  I had an appointment this afternoon with Dr. Jackson, my family doctor.  He mainly wanted to see how my blood pressure was doing and it was fine today.  He checked me over, listened to my heart, etc, and everything seemed to be as well as could be expected from an 85 year old man.  He wants to see me again in four months which will be March 11, 2011.  I did get a little nap this afternoon.  Gail, one of my e-mail friends said I get a cat nap in the afternoon.  I wonder where she got that idea.  Arby's was giving away a free roast beef sandwich today to veterans.  I went out about 4:30 p.m. and picked up one of their sandwiches and some curly fries for my supper.  They didn't even want to see any identification that I was a veteran.  I sat out with the cats for a few minutes this evening.  I haven't heard from some of you e-mail friends in a month or so.  If you haven't written to me in a month, send me an e-mail and tell me you are reading the Good Things.  Today is Veterans Day and I will leave a poem at the end of the Good Things that appeared in our local paper today.  The picture tonight is Rascal looking cute again.

The cats are fine.  Little Girl asleep on the couch.  She has been outside some today.  Rascal is asleep on the desk close to me.

At 9:30 p.m. skies are mostly cloudy with a temperature of 60 degrees.  I will see you next time.

Here is the poem:

Just A Common Soldier
By A. Lawrence Vaincourt

He was getting old and paunchy and his hair was falling fast,
And he sat around the Legion, telling stories of the past.

Of a war that he had fought in and the deeds that he had done,
In his exploits with his buddies; they were heroes, every one.

And tho' sometimes, to his neighbors, his tales became a joke,
All his Legion buddies listened, for they knew whereof he spoke.

But we'll hear his tales no longer for old Bill has passed away,
And the world's a little poorer, for a soldier died today.

He will not be mourned by many,  just his children and his wife,
For he lived an ordinary and quite uneventful life.

Held a job and raised a family, quietly going his own way,
And the world won't note his passing, though a soldier died today.

If we cannot do him honor while he's here to hear the praise,
Then at least let's give him homage at the ending of his days.

Perhaps just a simple headline in a paper that would say,
Our country is in mourning, for a soldier died today.
