Good Things
Wednesday, August 27, 2014GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS HOLY WORD:
89 Your Word, O Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens. 90 Your faithfulness continues through all generations; You established the earth, and it endures. - Psalm 119:89-90(New International Version).
GOD'S PROMISE TO US FROM HIS HOLY WORD:
(The Lord said) 10 "As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, 11 so is my Word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. - Isaiah 55:10-11(New International Version)/
A QUOTE:
In Christ our Savior we are well-loved. - David McCasland -
THOUGHTS TO REMEMBER:
In our desert of grief, Jesus can provide an oasis of hope. - From Our Daily Bread -
It's not the distance you travel but the direction that counts. - From Reminisce Magazine -
Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less. - From Reminisce Magazine -
NOTES:
Today has been partly cloudy with a high temperature of 93 degrees. Stephanie came at 8:30 a.m. and cleaned my house. She did another wonderful job. I plan to keep her for a while. I had lunch with Charley. I came home and took a nap with Smokey. I put treats outside for the cats at around 7:30 p.m. Thanks for your notes and thanks for reading the Good Things.
I have more sad news to report tonight. Dorothy, one of our dear church members and dear friend to everyone who knew her, passed away suddenly this morning. It is a shock and sadness to everyone who knew her. Pastor JT sent a note out a little while ago and I have his permission to include it in the Good Things tonight. His note will be at the end of the Good Things.
My cats are fine, Lucy, Rascal and Smokey are with me at present. I have seen all of them this evening.
Have a nice Thursday. Everett.
Here is Pastor JT's note:
I want to thank everyone for the responses we have received regarding Dorothy's passing. I, like most of us were shocked at the news. I do not have the time (nor the emotional ability) to go into any details at this time. It is enough to say please breath a prayer once you read this for her family as they are processing this, especially for her son Brian as this is a very difficult journey for him.
It has been almost four years since Dorothy came back into our lives and she had an immediate impact upon the Church. She has served on the Church board for the past couple of years as well as willingly going to District Assembly as a delegate. She became a very active participant in our "Widows" Ministry and was always in the middle of anything that was happening!! She was, in every sense of the word, not only a Saint, but a genuine Christian! She will be missed, not just for what she contributed, but for HOW she contributed to the Kingdom...with passion and enthusiasm. She loved the Church because she loved the Lord!
That her passing is so quickly on the heels of our brother Gaetano's home-going just further emphasizes how blessed we have been to have had such incredible individuals as a part of our congregation and I feel especially privileged to have been their pastor and friend.
Once we have information regarding a date and time of her services I will get that out. I will be meeting with her son Brian tomorrow to help walk him through the funeral arrangements as well being a sounding board for him. As I mentioned earlier, please keep this man in prayer. Pastor J. T.
