Faith puts the space in the right place

Today's sermon at my chuch was built around Genesis 28:10-20, the story of Jacob's covenant with God.  The visiting pastor, Larry O'Bryan, focused on the value of the space in these two statements.
God is no where and God is now here.
His three points regarding the story of Jacob's vision of the ladder reaching to heaven were
(1) You can reach God right from where you are, right now, in your life.
(2) God is at the top of the ladder.  God is in control when things are out of control.
(3) The God at the top of the ladder wants to be your personal God.

Rev. O'Bryan pictured Jacob, the trickster, coming home from his time in Paddan Aram with Esau on one side perhaps yelling, "Give me back my birthright; give me back my blessing.  I'm going to kill you."   Then there was Uncle Laban threatening behind him, "Give me back my daughters; give me back my property."  Now that's a real rock and a hard place..

And the point of the whole sermon:  Faith puts the space in the right place.  When we most think God is no where to be found;  we discover God is now here to be found.

After reading through the first lines, i frowned, questioning, 'God is no where?', then reading on, i understood and appreciated, the play on words ably supported by The Word; thanks for sharing.

much love
