Good Things
by Everett Christian, McAlester, OKSaturday, October 8, 2011
GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS HOLY WORD
9 Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: 10 If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. - Ecclesiastes 4:9-10(New International Version).
GOD'S PROMISE TO US FROM HIS HOLY WORD
(The Apostle Paul wrote) 8 "Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing." - 2 Timothy 4:8(New International Version).
A QUOTE
God moves in a mysterious way, His wonders to perform. - William Cowper -
THOUGHTS TO REMEMBER
The only person who gets anywhere playing both ends against the middle is an accordian player. - From Reminisce Magazine - Over every mountain is a path that can't be seen from the valley. - From Reminisce Magazine -
NOTES
I had lunch by myself today. Charley was at a church meeting. I went by the post office and then by Braums for a couple of items. I took my nap in early afternoon with Smokey. My houscleaning lady came at 4:00 p.m. and cleaned my house. My back was hurting a little so I lay down again and took another little nap. This time Little Girl napped with me with Rascal and Beau also coming by to check on me. I went out about 6:45 p.m. to the back yard and sat with the cats. I read until it got dark and then continued to sit out until 7:30 p.m. The cats are fine. Little Girl on the arm of the couch. Friendly, Rascal and Tony have each been by since I have been doing the Good Things.
My daughter, June, mentioned that she would like me to include some stories in the Good Things of times in my life. I wrote a few little one page stories a few years ago and I might include one in the Good Things when I have the time. Here is a little story for tonight.
BEGINNINGS
I had my earthly beginning on August 23, 1925 in a house in the country about five miles southwest of a little village called Ashland, Oklahoma. At that time this little village had two or three grocery stores, two or three service stations, one or two garages to work on cars and a school with grades through the 12th grade. It even had a doctor and a bank at one time. Today you can not even buy a coke in that little village. Back when I was born most of the country folks didn't have automobiles to drive to the big towns like McAlester to shop. The roads were not paved like they are today. Houses in the country had no electricity, no inside plumbing and no telephones. Water came from a well, spring or cistern. The little community where I was born was called Legal. Back then there was a little country school about every three or four miles. I lived on a farm for the first eighteen years of my life, part of the time during the Great Depression. These years on the farm helped to shape my life. The beginning of my marriage happened on May 25, 1946. I married a girl that I learned to love after my return from the United States Army on January 16, 1946. When she married me her name was changed from Flonnie Manry to Flonnie Christian. To our marriage were born three children, two girls and a boy. Our children's names are Treva, June and Ronald. That marriage lasted 61 years and 9 months until Flonnie died on February 24, 2008 at 83 years of age. Well this is a beginning of some more stories as time permits.
************************************************** Now to continue with the Good Things:
Today has been a sunny day with a high temperature of 86 degrees. Low temperature this morning was 71 degrees. At 9:40 p.m. skies are clear with a temperature of 74 degrees. There is rain going on in the western half of Oklahoma and that is where it is needed most. It may reach McAlester sometime tomorrow afternoon or night. I will see you next time. Have a Wonderful Sunday. Your comments are always welcome, pro or con.
In Christian Love, Everett.
