Good Things
by Everett Christian, McAlester, OKSaturday, December 31, 2011
GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS HOLY WORD
6 He is the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them— he remains faithful forever. 7 He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The LORD sets prisoners free, 8 the LORD gives sight to the blind, the LORD lifts up those who are bowed down, the LORD loves the righteous. - Psalm 146:6-8(New International Version).
GOD'S PROMISE TO US FROM HIS HOLY WORD
14 For the LORD will not reject his people; he will never forsake his inheritance. - Psalm 94 :14(New International Version).
A QUOTE
When some great sorrow, like a mighty river, flows through your life with peace-destroying power . . . say to your heart each trying hour; "This, too, shall pass away". - Lanta Wilson Smith -
THOUGHTS TO REMEMBER
I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life: I was given life that I might enjoy all things . . . I got nothing that I asked for - but everything that I had hoped for. - Author Unknown -
It's easy to see both sides of an issue that you're not interested in. - From Reminisce Magazine -
NOTES
Today has been a sunny day with a high temperature of 70 degrees and a low temperature of 33 degrees. My housecleaning lady came at 11:15 a.m. and cleaned my house while I went to lunch. I had lunch with Charley and our friend, Bill. I went to the post office and then to the cemetery. I took a nap this afternoon and would you believe that Little Girl came and napped with me again? I sat outside with the cats around 5:00 p.m. There were many birds flying south again this evening like they were the other day. There are a few people that I haven't heard from about staying with Good Things but I am going to send them a personal e-mail and make sure they want to be dropped in the new year. I may not do Good Things tomorrow night as it is church night and after church I have to get my garbage ready and out on the street for pick up on Monday morning. So don't be concerned if you don't get Good Things tomorrow night.
The cats are fine. Little Girl is on the back of the sofa and Rascal has been here but has now gone elsewhere. I have seen Lucy a couple of times today. She came in the house once.
I HOPE EVERYONE HAS A HAPPY, WONDERFUL, PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR!
I will see you next time,

Bears In My Attic
Written by Nan Forehand
Thursday, December 29, 2011
There are bears in my attic!
I’m really quite ecstatic!
More than two hundred!
Yes, that’s what I said!
Some cuddly and some not so much
Sparkles in their eyes and soft to the touch
Red bears, blue bears, Winnie the Pooh bears
To see these bears you have to go upstairs
Some cotton candy white, others dark brown
Hundreds you’ll see, but not one with a frown
Been doin’ more than wishin’
I’m a woman on a God given mission
Boyds, Bearington, Dakin, Gund and Gerber
they will help a child rest; no need for Dr. Ferber
his sleep method we won’t need to use
take away the fear and a child will snooze
washed top to bottom and behind the ears
known to bring comfort and dry little tears
people have donated bears or given me money
that’s what I call generosity, honey
I love to shop and I love teddy bears
A cartload of bears brings smiles and stares
Of Nan’s good will bears, I’ll share the story
Author’s note: Since the first delivery of Nan’s good will bears to the Iredell Memorial Hospital Emergency Room on July 22, 2011, more than 200 bears have been given to sick children and some adults as appropriate. God has provided more than 553 teddy bears as of December 29, 2011. Just when I think “Wow! Can it get any better than this?”, God says, “Wait, there’s more! It gets better than this!” I’m excited! How about you?

GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS HOLY WORD
17 The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. 18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. - Psalm 34:17-18(New International Version).
GOD'S PROMISE TO US FROM HIS HOLY WORD
(Jesus said) 20 "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me." - Revelation 3:20(New King James Version).

NOTES
Today has been a sunny day in McAlester, Oklahoma, with a high temperature of 65 degrees and a low temperature of 41 degrees. I had lunch with Charley and then to the post office. I took a nap with Emmy. At around 3:00 p.m. I made a trip to the Petsense store and Walmart. At 4:45 p.m. I sat outside with the cats for 30 minutes. There were still a few birds flying south but not near as many as yesterday evening. There were some very big birds way up high leaving a vapor trail. I had my binoculars and could see them much better than with the naked eye. If you haven't told me already be sure to tell me by tomorrow night if you want to continue with the Good Things in the new year.
The cats are fine. Little Girl and Rascal in their usual places. Emmy was here a little while ago and told me she wanted out the front door so I let her out. When I got up this morning and checked the back porch, there was Lucy the stray. She came inside for a few minutes and ate some canned cat food and then went back outside. She was also with us when we sat outside this evening but left before I came inside. Siamese Tom was also hanging around as I sat outside.
Have a nice Saturday! I will see you next time.

Poetry
Hebrews 12:1 “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…”
God has used poetry to soothe and comfort me. When I was recuperating from a double mastectomy, God greatly used hymns for solace. What are hymns? but poems to music. Each verse was a strong statement from precious saints coming down through the ages proclaiming, “You can do this. Be strong, my sister.”
Poetry
The cadence of one word or two,
That rhymes with every line,
Reminds me of a rocking chair,
Moving back and forth in time.
And as I read, my soul reacts,
To the motion of each verse.
A quiet peace comes over me,
As if we just conversed.
I hear the poems and my soul responds,
With stillness from above.
The mirrored lake reflects the sky,
And my heart beats loved, loved, loved.

Good Things

GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS HOLY WORD,br /> 8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” 16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told. - Luke 2:8-20(New International Version).
GOD'S PROMISE TO US FROM HIS HOLY WORD
7 For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone. 8 If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. - Romans 14:7-8(New International Version).

,br /> NOTES
Today has been partly cloudy in McAlester, Oklahoma, with a high temperature of 45 degrees and a low temperature of 21 degrees. My housecleaning came at 11:15 a.m. and cleaned. While she was cleaning the house I went to the post office and then to the Meeting Place for lunch by myself. Taco Bob's was closed today. Flonnie and I used to go to the Meeting Place for breakfast almost every Monday morning. I eat breakfast at home now and eat lunch at Taco Bob's so I don't get an opportunity to go to the Meeting Place very often so I took that opportunity today. They still remember me there. While I was out I went to the Petsense store, Walmart and then to the cemetery before coming home. I took a nap this afternoon. Beau and Smokey napped with me today. Around 3:30 p.m. I made another trip to the post office to mail a letter. Well, I had e-mails from 12 people today wanting to keep receiving the Good Things. There were too many e-mails to share with you. I think I will continue to do the Good Things in the new year as long as I feel like it. If you want to continue to receive the Good Things in the new year, be sure to let me know by December 31. I will not continue to send them to you if you don't let me know that you want them. I am by myself tonight as for as having human company but I do have 8 cats to keep me company. My daughter, Treva, will be here tomorrow afternoon. We will go to Oklahoma City on Monday and return on Tuesday. You probably wil not receive the Good Things again for 2 or 3 days.
The cats are fine. Little Girl is on the back of the couch. Emmy and Leo were here with me a little while ago.
To Everyone I wish you a Wonderful Merry Christmas! I will see you next time,
In Christian Love, Everett.
