My Dog Kipp

Other Poems by David L. Clingerman

I once had a doggie named Kipp,
with me in the woods he did trip.
He ran to and fro, after creatures he'd go.
This doggie named "Kipper's First Nip".
The critters would run with him in pursuit,
just yipping and yapping - yippiddy yip.

He would come when I called,
like a good little dog, he would sit,
He would shake,
he'd roll over and beg.
A friend and a pal who ran on four legs.
Running and romping was all part of his fun,
as he learned to obey, in all the I'd say.

So adventuring we went,
To the woods with a tent,
for creatures to find, on a run he was bent.
When barking so bold,
I rushed for to see,
T'was a porcupine he had in a tree!

He was jumping and barking,
and I yelled with a start,
A porcupine's butt,
is not for you mutt!
HEEL, I shouted,
Kipp, sorta pouted;
He came as I smiled,
and hugged him a while.

He was my friend.
