His Blood

HIS BLOOD

King of the Jews! how so they mocked

Plaiting the thorny reeds they crowned

A saviour justly so was nailed

They chose him even after his works kindly endearing

They pierced his holy flesh with sins so vile and disgusting

They jeered and ranted to urge on his holy suffering

This was the thanks they gave him

That day loud was their acclaim

Crucify! crucify him!

For his sinless mass

No! not Bar abbas

His ills to surpass

They wanted the Christ

Whose blood was purist

Lamb of the highest

I tried a form called "Christ in a Rhyme", which was invented by Christina R. Jussaume. The poem consists of 5 three-line stanzas, and makes use of monorhyme. The end result takes on the shape of a cross.

(sorry this one didn’t but I’ll keep trying)

Schematic

Stanza 1: 3 lines, 8 syllables per line, Rhyme (a a a)

Stanza 2: 3 lines, 14 syllables per line, Rhyme (b b b)

Stanza 3: 3 lines, 7 syllables per line, Rhyme (c c c)

Stanzas 4 & 5: 3 lines, 5 syllables per line, Rhyme (d d d, e e e)
